Trends come and go - all around us - from what game everyone is playing on their phone (Move over Candy Crush, check out Monopoly GO) to what food or beverage concept everyone is flocking to (previous hits include: cupcakes, cookie dough, frozen yogurt, cosmos, moscow mules, and those “nutrition” drink shops on every corner).

We don’t want you to be left behind on the latest trends in home design - from fixtures to finishes to colors to fabrics and more.  We’ve reviewed tons of our favorite design magazines and home styling blogs and compiled a list of the top 10 trends that are in and the top 10 that are out (or on their way out).

Maybe you’ve been wanting to give your living room and bedrooms a little refresh of accent pillows and window treatments.   Perhaps you’re considering renovating your kitchen and baths or taking on a historic restoration project.  You may even be in the final stages of designing your dream home.   If you’ve been considering any home improvement, you’ll want to check out these suggestions.  We’ve also included links to our favorite design resources.

Final Thoughts:

Let’s not rule those in the “Out” column completely.   The foundation of creating a timeless design - a home you want to live in forever - includes selecting furniture, fixtures and finishes that exude warmth, shows great attention to detail, is curated to reflect the architectural design of the home, feels comfortably lived in, and showcases the owners personality.  Having a lacquered finish on the walls of your powder room and treating it like a jewel box will always be en vogue.  Traditional, heavy drapes with embellishments, and upholstered Queen Anne style accent chairs with a heavy pattern do not belong in a truly mid-century modern home.

The process of making such important, long-term decisions that inevitably require a fairly significant investment is challenging even for the experts, let alone the DIY-er.   We have a few resources below that may help spark some creative ideas to help you get started on your next project.
